Altenar Powers ArenaPlus Sportsbook as DigiPlus Doubles Down on Philippine Sports Betting

The Deal: A Fully Managed Sportsbook

DigiPlus Interactive Corp. (PSE: PLUS), the publicly listed operator behind the Philippines' leading online gaming platform ArenaPlus, has confirmed the selection of Malta-based sportsbook technology supplier Altenar to power its sports betting operations. The partnership will see ArenaPlus migrate its sportsbook entirely to Altenar's fully managed platform, a turnkey solution that encompasses odds compilation, trading, risk management, localization, in-play betting, and regulatory compliance infrastructure.

The deal was announced jointly by Dinos Stranomitis, Chief Operating Officer of Altenar, and Erick Su, Head of ArenaPlus, during a press briefing held in Makati City. The partnership marks Altenar's first major deployment in Southeast Asia and DigiPlus's most significant technology investment in its sportsbook vertical since launching ArenaPlus.

"The Philippine market is unlike any other in Asia," Stranomitis said. "The combination of a PAGCOR-regulated framework, a sports-obsessed population, and a mobile-first user base creates an enormous opportunity for a localized, data-driven sportsbook. We designed the ArenaPlus deployment specifically for this market."

PBA Player Props: The Localization Bet

Perhaps the most significant product innovation in the Altenar-ArenaPlus partnership is the introduction of a comprehensive player proposition bets portfolio for Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) games. The PBA is the country's most-watched and most-wagered domestic sporting league, with a passionate fan base that extends from Metro Manila to the provinces. Yet until now, PBA player props have been largely absent from licensed Philippine sportsbooks, a gap that Altenar and ArenaPlus are now positioning to fill.

Altenar's in-house statistical modeling team has built PBA-specific models that generate pre-match and in-play player prop markets, including points, rebounds, assists, and combined stat lines for individual PBA players. The models draw on historical PBA data, injury reports, and real-time game state information.

Sportradar Integrity Integration

The ArenaPlus platform will integrate Sportradar's Integrity Exchange, a monitoring system that detects suspicious betting patterns in real time across global sportsbook networks. The integration is designed to address match-fixing concerns, which have periodically surfaced in Philippine sports, particularly in lower-tier basketball and football leagues.

Sportradar's system works by comparing betting patterns on ArenaPlus against aggregated data from hundreds of sportsbooks worldwide. Anomalies trigger alerts that are reviewed by both Sportradar's integrity team and ArenaPlus's compliance department, with escalation to PAGCOR when warranted.

Erick Su emphasized the integrity angle during the press briefing: "We want ArenaPlus to be the most trusted sportsbook in the Philippines. Sportradar integration is not a marketing gimmick. It's a foundational requirement for long-term credibility with both regulators and players."

The Mobile-First Filipino Market

The Philippines is one of the most mobile-centric gaming markets in the world. Over 80 percent of online gaming sessions in the country originate from smartphones, driven by the widespread adoption of affordable Android devices and the ubiquity of GCash and Maya as mobile payment platforms. Fixed broadband penetration remains low relative to peers like Thailand and Malaysia, making mobile optimization not just a preference but a necessity.

Altenar's ArenaPlus deployment has been designed mobile-first, with the desktop experience treated as a secondary consideration. The interface is built as a progressive web app (PWA) that loads quickly on 4G connections, with a data-light design that minimizes bandwidth consumption. In-play betting features, which require real-time data streaming, have been optimized for intermittent connectivity.

"In the Philippines, the sportsbook experience is fundamentally a mobile experience," Su said. "Our users are betting from jeepneys, from offices, from their homes in the provinces. If the app doesn't work seamlessly on a mid-range Android phone with a 4G connection, you've lost the market."

Sports Betting Within the PIGO Framework

Sports betting accounts for approximately 35 percent of total PIGO gross gaming revenue in the Philippines, a share that has been growing as domestic leagues resume full schedules and international sports calendars normalize. ArenaPlus, as the dominant PIGO sportsbook, captures a disproportionate share of this segment.

The PIGO framework, established after the 2024 POGO ban, permits licensed operators to offer online sports betting, casino games, and other regulated gaming products to players physically located in the Philippines. Unlike the earlier e-Games framework, which was primarily casino-focused, PIGO explicitly encompasses sports betting and has attracted operators who specialize in the vertical.

Competitive Implications

The Altenar partnership gives ArenaPlus access to a technology stack that has been deployed in over 30 regulated markets globally, including Latin America, Africa, and Europe. This is a significant upgrade from the platform's previous in-house sportsbook technology, which lacked the depth of pre-match and in-play markets that international-grade platforms offer.

For competitors, the move raises the bar. Other PIGO sportsbook operators, many of which use white-label solutions from smaller providers, will need to invest in their own technology upgrades to remain competitive. The introduction of PBA player props, in particular, creates a product differentiation that may be difficult to replicate quickly, given the proprietary data modeling required.
